Project Overview:
This $77M design build project included complete reconstruction of this major intersection located at the “gateway” of downtown Colorado Springs. Notable construction elements include bridge foundations, new embankment, slope stability, numerous MSE retaining walls, temporary and permanent pavements, improvements to major drainages, culvert and jack and bore utility installations. This being Mr. Sammons’ seventh design-build project, he has thorough knowledge of DOT and FHWA requirements, procedures and specifications that provide the foundation for design of these projects. Due to poor past roadway performance along the I-25 corridor, significant analysis, design, and construction monitoring activities were performed to mitigate settlement of new embankments and retaining walls.
